Solon Music Parents
Solon Music Parents is a non-profit organization that supports instrumental music programs at Solon High School, Solon Middle School, and Orchard Middle School. Membership is automatic for all parents of instrumental music students, and meetings are open to all who are interested. Funds raised through concession operations, Tag Day, Market Day, the pasta dinner, and other events support the bands, orchestras and Starlette drill team with uniform and equipment purchases, trip subsidies, and other activities. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month.
Band Camp
Band Camp 2012 is just around the corner. The camp will be held at Walsh University Sunday, July 22, 2012 through Friday, July 27, 2012.
Spring Trip
The spring trip to the Fiesta Vel music competition in Williamsburg, VA has been approved for band, orchestra, and Starlettes and is scheduled for April 26-29, 2012. Charter buses will leave Wednesday evening and arrive in Williamsburg Thursday morning.
This competition brings in ensembles from all over the United States. Solon ensembles will be adjudicated by professional music educators and rated by their level of performance. While in Williamsburg, the students will also get a chance to visit Colonial Williamsburg, take a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk, and end the trip with a visit to Busch Gardens, which is also where the awards ceremony will take place.
Preliminary costs for the trip is approximately $600 per student if 360 students go. This figure includes all transportation, breakfast and dinner for all 3 days, 2 nights hotel stay, sight seeing at various locations, music festival fees, admission to Busch Gardens, and a dinner/dance cruise.
- All student members of Band, Orchestra and Music in Motion are invited to go on this trip.
- If more kids decide to go the cost will go down, as well as, if less kids go on the trip, the price will go up.
- This trip is optional - not mandatory. Therefore, scholarships will not be available.
- Solon Music Parents is considering additional fundraising to help lower the cost of the trip.
